Hilton Bankside
The recently-opened Hilton Bankside, part of the vanguard of the ‘exciting new generation’ of Hilton hotels, wanted an innovative way to root the contemporary identity of building in the heritage of the location, as part of the ongoing regeneration of the Bankside area. Working with design firm Twenty2Degrees on the hotel’s restaurant and bar area, we researched a local 20th Century ‘ghost sign’ mural and recreated it for the 21st Century as part of the hotel’s brand identity.
Taking our inspiration from the texture of an old kitchen towel, we created a new kind of hand-painted patina to enhance the existing tin wall tiles, achieving an innovative new surface texture perfectly in keeping with the heritage aesthetic.
And for the pièce de résistance, we sourced 17,000 (yes, that’s seventeen thousand) old penny coins to create a truly impressive mural wall behind the bar.
